چکیده

This paper presents an approximate multiple segment line scan-conversion method — the Slope Table Method, and analyze the statistics on different properties, advantages, and drawbacks. The statistics show that the new method can increase the percentage of multiple segment lines (i.e., lines with more than one segments) of all possible lines in an N×N raster area from about 39% to more than 99%. In software implementation for line scan-conversion and antialiasing, this method is on average more than 6 times faster than Gupta’s antialiasing line algorithm. Compared with other line scan-conversion methods, the method may choose pixels which are not the closest to the line (i.e., error pixels). Here the paper demonstrates that the visual effect is acceptable in most applications with the error pixels. Finally, the paper provides the hardware implementation design of the Slope Table method for multiple segment line scan-conversion.

A Video Interface with End-point Security

A video interface with end-point security is able to protect the confidentiality of electronic information up until the scan-line conversion process. Data stored in the video RAM remains encrypted, and this feature can be used to support design rights management. We describe the implementation of an end-pointsecure character-based VGA video interface. Video data confidentiality is maintained by...

8 Hardware Outline Character Rasterization

This paper presents the design and implementation of an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) for real-time rasterization of characters described by their outline based on vertical scan-conversion and flag fill algorithms. The chip acts as a coprocessor which rasterizes outline fonts given by Bezier splines and straight line segments. It generates high quality fonts at a rate 30 times ...

XCRIBL is a system developed at CMU for generating hard copy computer output of arbitrary type fonts, graphics, and grey-scale images using a Xerox Graphic Printer (XGP). XCRIBL can be used to generate documents approaching the quality of printed text with the use of a document generation language (XOFF or PUB) and a character set design program (BILOS). Textual and graphic information to be pr...

Hardware Acceleration of Texture Mapping

We present a hardware design based around scan-line algorithms. The design can perform colour mapping, environment mapping and produce shading effects which include a specular term. We describe the algorithms which are implemented, and the approximations we have made to achieve near real-time performance. 1.

A Generic Scan Attack on Hardware based eStream Winners

Scan chains, a design for testability (DFT) feature, are included in most modern-day ICs. But, it opens a side channel for attacking cryptographic chips. We propose a methodology by which we can recover internal states of any stream cipher using scan chains without knowledge of its design. We consider conventional scan-chain design which is normally not scrambled or protected in any other way. ...
